Children's Sunday School

We provide nursery child care (during both Sunday Worship Services) for children under three years of age. A children's activity is available at the 8:45 a.m. service. Sunday School runs during the 10:30 a.m. service, for children from three years of age through twelfth grade.

Crossroads Bible Study

Crossroads Bible Study class was a great success in its first year so it will continue for for ages 10th grade - 12th grades.

2011-2012 Sunday School

As a new Sunday School year approaches, I look forward to seeing what can be accomplished by this year’s team of volunteers, working with our wonderful children and sharing in the fun of providing meaningful activities to help them grow in their faith.

Our Sunday School kick off begins Sunday, September, 11 with Homecoming Sunday. The following Sunday will begin our first unit “Creation” which continues through October 16th. Our focus will be on the beginning of the universe as told in Genesis Chapter 1.

There are many ways to participate in the Sunday School program, even if you’ve never participated before. We need teachers, shepherds, goals teachers, substitutes, and assistants to help the Sunday School program run smoothly. Here are the responsibilities involved for each role:

1.   Teachers: Using a rotational system, teachers prepare only one lesson per five-week unit, which they adjust each week for a different age group. There is one teacher for each station: art, storytelling, music, science, games and cooking.
We are also in need of a teacher for the 8:45 service. This is usually a small group of children of mixed ages.

2.   Shepherds: While teachers see a new group each week, shepherds stay with their group throughout the entire unit.

3.   Goals Teachers: Each grade level has a list of age-appropriate facts, concepts, songs, etc., that students are expected to learn as a foundation for faith. Goals are taught following junior worship, which is held approximately every six weeks.

4.   Substitutes: These volunteers fill in for teachers and shepherds when they have to miss a week.

5.   Assistants: These volunteers assist with occasional events such as Junior Worship and Special Activities.

Teachers and shepherds serve for units that are 5 Sundays long. Goals teachers serve for five or six Sundays throughout the year. Other volunteers serve periodically. If you want to be involved but can’t make the commitment to be a teacher, shepherd, or goals teacher, you can sign up to be a substitute or assistant. It is a privilege and a blessing to work with the children of MCC and help them grow in their faith. Would you consider giving a little of your time?

To volunteer or to ask a question, please contact me at 203-913-5471 or danielle.tusch@gmail.com.  Thank you very much!

Are You New to the Church and Have School-Aged Kids?

Bring them over to the Sunday School program after the Children’s Message at either of the two services. If you need additional assistance, please find the individual with the nametag that says, "CE Person of the Day".

Please print the Church School Registration form so that we have all your important information, especially if your child(ren) has (have) allergies.

If you have any comments, concerns or questions, please call the Church School Coordinator:
Danielle Tusch at 913-5471 or danielle.tusch@gmail.com

Registration Forms

Please click here for our 2011-2012 Sunday School Registration Form.
This information is important in a number of ways:

  • our church secretary needs to update her database which in turn helps Christian Education keep track of our students and make sure they are in the correct groups.
  • they also inform us of any allergies that are pertinent to our Cooking section.

Please find forms on the CE bulletin board (or download one here) and leave them in the slot provided, give them to a shepherd, teacher or CE Person of the Day or leave it on Melissa’s (our secretary) desk in the church office.

Teachers and Shepherds Are Always Needed.

We are looking for teacher volunteers to donate their time of six weeks for each unit. There are four units that we will be using throughout the Sunday School season.

See the summary at the top of the page for the current unit.

Shepherds of children from 3rd grade and younger will work on the Goals Program on Jr. Worship Sundays. The Gathering Time Leader spends just five minutes with the children after the message discussing the theme of the unit and gives vital information for that part of the Sunday School season.

All leaders are asked to complete a Safe Church Policy information sheet in order to be part of our Sunday School Leaders. This is for the safety of our children as well as for us.

If you are interested in gathering time, shepherding, cooking, telling stories, art, music, science or games, please contact Church School Coordinator, Danielle Tusch at 268-9327, or email her at mccsecretary@sbcglobal.net

Junior Worship Sundays

Junior Worship for children preschool to 3rd grade is scheduled six times per year. Everyone will meet in worship, then children will be dismissed during the first hymn to meet their shepherds in Wilton Hall.

Jr. Worship will be held as well as collection of food items for the Pantry and offering for our sponsor child from the Casa Hogar orphanage in Mexico, Fernando. After Jr. Worship the children will meet in an assigned classroom where they will work on specific goals for their age level.

The weekly bulletin will have a listing as to where your child is for prompt pickup.

Goals of Program

After Jr. Worship in Wilton Hall on the first Sundays of the month, your preschooler-3rd grader will be working on specific goals set by the Board of Christian Education.

For example, preschoolers learn Psalm 100:5a: "The Lord is good, his love lasts forever."; while kindergarteners try to retell the story of Noah, 1st graders may sing the song, O Come All Ye Faithful, 2nd graders can recite the Doxology and the 3rd graders learn the different parts of the bible.

The class shepherds have these as their duties on this Sunday.

CE Bulletin Board

This is located in Wilton Hall and is chock full of information.

Want to know where your child will be in the rotation for the following Sunday? The schedule will be posted there as well as a listing of who the teachers are for each section and the shepherds for each grade level.

Where is Beardsley, anyhow? A room locator is also available for your perusal.

Want to know what’s going on with Christian Education in the near future? Check out the calendar of events also on the board.

To the right of all this information are pictures of what the children have been recently doing as well as some of the artwork or projects they’ve completed.

Fernando Rodriguez

Our Sunday School program sponsors a child who is 6 years old from Mexico. Members of the congregation purchase gifts for him when they travel to Casa Hogar on their mission trip during the summer.

During gathering time an offertory collection is made in his name. The children have the opportunity to write email letters and create beautiful cards for him.
