2008 - The Dump Project
In 2008, a team of twenty adults went to work in the Oaxaca City Dump, helping the 33 families that survive off of what the Oaxaca City Dump can provide. These families, more than 120 men, women, and children, make up a closely-knit community of people that many consider to be modern day untouchables.
It is the mission of Simply Smiles to bring this injustice to light and provide what each family needs and deserves by building each a proper, safe home of which they can be proud. The picture on is an aerial view of the neighborhood, the brightly colored buildings provide a sense of safety and pride.
In 2007, our mission team built the first Dump Project home for the Garcia Family. In 2008, we built the 22nd home in the dump, and helped put the finishing touches on many others. Recently, the street has been named "The Road of Progress", and electricity, sewage and water systems have made the living situation much brighter for residents.
