Helping people isn’t something we squeeze in when we have extra time—it’s one of the ways we live out our faith. Sometimes that care looks like a fundraiser or a service project. Sometimes it looks like a kitchen full of volunteers, a long table covered in donated items, or a small group of people quietly doing the next right thing for a neighbor they may never meet. However it happens, the message is the same: you matter, and you’re not alone.
One of the most joyful examples of this spirit is our Spaghetti Dinner & BINGO Night. It’s laughter, community, and plenty of good food, but it’s also a way we turn fun into tangible support for others. With multiple church groups working together, the event helps fund compassionate outreach in our community and beyond, including programs that keep people warm and supported through difficult seasons like Project Warmth.
We also show up in practical ways to address food insecurity. Throughout the year, volunteers prepare and deliver hundreds of bagged lunches to St. George’s Church in Bridgeport, helping serve neighbors who are hungry or unhoused. We also visit nOURish Bridgeport to prepare and distribute hot meals. It’s simple, steady service, made meaningful because it’s done with care and consistency.
Some of our giving happens through gathering, too. Our Annual Wine Tasting brings people together for an evening of conversation and connection. And sometimes, we put feet to our prayers. Our church participates in the CROP Hunger Walk, joining with others to raise awareness and support efforts that fight hunger locally and globally. It’s a reminder that the path toward justice is often made by walking together.
Our Annual Tag Sale is another hands-on way to help. It takes many volunteers to sort, price, set up, and welcome shoppers, and the result is support for a wide range of local organizations doing essential work: family support, recovery and housing ministries, and other community partners who meet real needs every day.
Covenant to Care is a program we have with Bridgeport DCF Social Workers to provide Thanksgiving Baskets, School Supplies and Christmas Gifts for families in the DCF system.
If you look closely, you’ll notice a pattern: our church helps people through joyful events, steady service, and partnerships that matter. We don’t do it perfectly, but we do it faithfully—learning, growing, and reaching outward with the love of Christ, one meal, one winter coat, one walk, one act of compassion at a time.
